Saturday Night Genealogy Fun: Random Research

Saturday Night Genealogy Fun: Random Research

Participating two weekends in a row!

Random Name Generator gave me the following name: Gus Drake

Since I live in Texas I wanted to research a "Gus Drake" who lived (lives) in Texas. This is what I found!

a) The first record was the 1930 census from Victoria, Victoria County, Texas.

Edward Calliette  head  male  white  51  married - @ age 28  Texas  parents US/US laborer/odd jobs
Mary V Calliette  wife  female  white  60  married - @ age 37  Texas  parents TN/LA
Clarence Drake  nephew  male  white  24  single  Texas  no occupation  parents TX/TX
J. Gus Drake  nephew  male  white  17  single  Texas  house painter  parents TX/TX

b) Next, I found Gus Drake in the 1920 census with his parents, J. T. and Annie Drake.

J T Drake  head  male  white  37  married  Texas  parents LA/LA general farm
Annie Drake  white  female  white  44  married  Texas  parents TX/TX
Clarence Drake  son  male  white  13  single  Texas  parents TX/TX

c) Gus Drake's death certificate:

The death certificate indicates Gus Drake's death was due to suicide. Very tragic. The informant is wife, Helen Mae Drake.

d) I was able to find Gus Drake on Findagrave.com. He was born on July 25, 1912 and died on January 3, 1974. He is buried in McDade Cemetery, McDade, Bastrop County, Texas. He is linked to all of his siblings and parents. Mr. Drake was just added to FAG two months ago; I consider tonight's assignment providential!

e) I found several marriage and divorce records. The first chronological record I found was a divorce record for Gus Drake and Helen M. Greatsinger in California. The date of divorce was June 1967.

f) The next chronological records was a divorce certificate in Bastrop County, Texas. The date of divorce was December 10, 1969.

g) Last, is a marriage certificate for Gus Drake and Helen M. Greatsinger in Bastrop County, Texas, on December 22, 1971.
