Mrs. Elizabeth Johnson Smith, 84, wife of the late Colonel Gaines Chism Smith who was a veteran of the Mexican, Civil and Spanish-American Wars, and the mother of the late Ewell Smith, died Friday, May 18, at the Woodson Convalescent Home after being transferred there from the Jefferson Hospital where she was carried March 15 and operated on for a broken hip.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday at 2 o'clock from the home of her grandson, William D Smith, at 502 North Houston Street, with Dr. B. T. Waites in charge.
Pallbearers were John Coffman, Joe Sarver, Fletcher Rogers, W. B. Buchannon, Pierce Hunter and Leslie Nelson.
Interment was in the City Cemetery, McConnell directing.
The only survivors are her two grandson, William Smith of Athens and Gaines Smith of Birmingham.
