Enumerated in the household of Albert J. Smith are the following:

Albert Smith 28 M farmer Tennessee
Phebe 26 F Indiana
Mary J 4 F Arkansas
Allen 2 M Arkansas
Henry 0/12 M Arkansas
Delilah Smith 12 F Arkansas

Delilah Smith probably isn’t a daughter of Albert and Phebe Smith.

In 1860, the family is still living in Crawford County, Arkansas near Lee Creek. This census took place on August 15, 1860. Enumerated in the household are the following:

Albert Smith 38 M farmer Tennessee
Ibbe 35 F Indiana
Mary J 14 F Arkansas
Allen 13 M Arkansas
Harry 8 M Arkansas

According to family legend, Albert J. Smith met an early death in 1867. “Albert J. Smith was killed by bushwhackers in 1867. This occurred near the end of the civil war. He was shot a short distance from his home in the Boston Mountains. They left him where he fell. His wife Phoebe was not far from their home when he was murdered. This started the cemetery where the Smith clan is now buried. His grandfather Calvin is also buried in this cemetery. The area is now within a forest preserve. After Albert died, his body was placed on an oxen with the help of a neighbor with last named Garret (also possibly buried in this cemetery). He was hauled 1/4 of a mile west of their home. The cemetery is a 1/4 mile northwest of what was originally called Raines Hollow, named for Elzy Raines, who married Albert's widow Phoebe.”

Albert J. Smith is buried in the Albert Smith Cemetery, Natural Dam, Crawford County, Arkansas.

In 1870, the remaining members of Albert J. SMITH’s family are found living in Lee Creek, Crawford County, Arkansas. The census was taken August 4, 1870.
