Temple Man Wins Athens Fiddle Contest
Athens, Texas. - Red Rogers of Temple took first place in the under-65-years division in contests at the old fiddlers reunion and home-coming here Friday, Walter Dean, master of ceremonies announced Saturday.
Fount Cain of Brownsboro was second, Jimmy Seals of Iraan third, Mervin Womack of Dallas fourth, and Alton Allen of Athens, fifth.
The winners in the over-65-division were announced Friday afternoon. They were G. S. Rose, San Antonio, first; T. J. Foley, second; F. C. Foley, Corsicana, third; Cass Hopson, Athens, fourth, and S. E. Bunyard, Athens, fifth.
Alton Allen's Western All-Stars of Athens took first in the band division, followed by the Mitchell Band of Houston, second; Lone Stay Playboys of Tyler, third; Jimmy Seals Band of Iraan, fourth, and Mervin Womack Band of Dallas, fifth.
In the specialty division, Singer Joy Star took first and Singer Barbara Aaron second. Both are from Athens.
The judges were David Brand of Houston, C. W. Ashley of Dallas and Lee Jordan of Tyler.
As an added attraction there were to quartets, the Mad Caps and Tex-A-Chords, both of Dallas.
