Theater is Searched By U.S. Officers and Proprietor Arrested
William Croney, proprietor of the Princess Theater, northwest corner of Akard and Elm streets, was arrested Monday afternoon at the theater by H. J. Brooks and C. J. Bright, Government anti-narcotic agents who have been sent here for service during the fair.
Immediately after Croney was arrested the theater was searched under a Federal search warrant. While the matinee was in progress the Government men searched the piano office and a rear room and said they found a quantity of morphine.
Croney was arraigned before United State Commission R. V. Davidson Jr., who placed his bond at $3,500. He made bond with J. E. Marvin and W. D. Nevills as securities. Croney is charged both with possession and sale of narcotics. He pleaded not guilty and was bound over until the January term of Federal Court.
